NEW YORK, NY…July 7, 2010 – Australian Idol alumni and gender-bending sensation Courtney Act is set to release her international single, Welcome to Disgraceland, on July 22^nd via Cool Kids Club it was announced today. To promote the electro-pop song, Courtney Act will embark on her first international tour this summer, hitting major cities in the USA and Europe.

“The single was inspired by my live performance nightclub “Disgraceland”, said Courtney Act at the announcement of the song release in Australia. “I wrote it because I wanted a track that was unique to me. The lyrics and catch phrases in the song have come from the mouth of Courtney Act.”

Courtney Act’s Disgraceland is one of Sydney and Melbourne, Australia’s most popular nightclubs renowned for its elaborate costumes, colorfully mischievous dancers, and over-the-top wind machines.

Some of the biggest names in the world have attended Disgraceland including George Michael and the Pussycat Dolls.

“No matter where I am when I sing the song’s chorus, the audience and I are magically transported to Disgraceland,” she continues. “It’s euphoric to see everyone in the arena jumping, dancing, laughing and celebrating the debauchery!”

Most recently, Courtney performed a private birthday performance for Lady Gaga – complete with a lap dance! “It was like Lady Gaga had a light that was shining from the inside out,” reflects Courtney Act. “The party was held outside and after the performance, we chatted and walked together in a garden. At one point, we reached some stone steps that looked dangerous. Gaga suggested we take off our heels since they were both 6”. Mine, however, were not Armani Privé and Swarovski encrusted.

“What struck me was how very normal Lady Gaga was. An important lesson was reiterated that night – one I hope audiences will gleam from my show: Our similarities are greater than out differences.”

Courtney Act made a named for herself in 2003, when after trying out and failing to get on Australian Idol as Shane Jenek, she returned for the next day’s audition as Courtney Act. Courtney’s explosive, energetic performing style, coupled with her joyous personality, sent audiences wild in the first series of ‘Australian Idol’. With performances of songs like “You Don’t Own Me”, “W.O.M.A.N.” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”, the country was mesmerized and Australia had a new, slightly less conventional, sweetheart.

In addition to being the first drag contestant on “Idol”, Courtney Act was the franchises’ first out contestant. No other contestant on any Idol show throughout the world has ever been out during production. Still, Courtney doesn’t credit the dress for her success.

“I was judged on my entertainment value and talent, two essential qualities for any pop artist,” she says. “I know the fact that I was in drag added to the entertainment value, but I think the whole package is what got me through.”

The appearance led to many new opportunities, including a make-up contract as one of the TV faces of Sheer Cover Make-up, a role in the Australian company of the musical RENT, and numerous TV show appearances including Australia’s Next Top Model. In 2007, she was selected by FHM Magazine readers as one of FHM’s Top 100 Sexiest Women in the World.

Courtney Act also released two singles with Sony/BMG. Welcome to Disgraceland is her first independent release.
