La Misteriosa Weeps for Families of Slain Gay Puerto Rican Teen.
(La Misteriosa) It's sad to admit that things don't seem to have changed much back home. "Lawlessness" is an apt adjective to describe it. The murder rate of this island with nearly 4 Million people is nearly-to-over (depending on the year) a thousand homicides (that are reported/discovered) annually. New York City, by comparison, has more than double the number of residents, but it's murder rate is 50% or less than that of Puerto Rico. That's right, you're safer walking the crack alleys of NYC than you are in downtown San Juan past sundown and you don't live in the neighborhood - you are fucked.
The "gay panic" defense is used here...again...the ink isn't even fucking dry on the hate crimes bill and we got this homicide (Puerto Rico abides by American Federal Laws as it is a commonwealth/territory/colony/relic of the Spanish-American War).
