Gay Couples Will Be Able to Have Their Own Biological Child.
Cellular Dynamics International Inc. a firm founded by stem cell scientist James Thompson, of the University of Wisonsin-Madison, say they have been able to create pluripotent stem cells from blood. Not only would this allow for a pharma company to create radical gene therapy individualized for each patient's particular needs, but male sperm cells can be induced in a petri dish utilizing the same method. Seeing as how these new sperm cells would have the same DNA as its donor, two male donors could have their DNA fused in a dish (though it's possible to do so with sperm as well, we are assuming in this case that one of the two might be infertile) and inserted into an ovum whose DNA has been removed (that of the donor mother). Assuming successful fertilization of the egg and further successful implantation into the womb, the newborn would be the byproduct of two genetic fathers.
We wonder who will be the first? Some scientists? Some fellows with a LOT of money? Or, perhaps it has already been done in secret?
Here is the article about the stem cells from blood donors.
