Transsexual Susan Stanton now Lake Worth City Manager.

Former Largo City manager Steve Stanton was fired after 17 years of loyal service to his city in 2007, when he publicly announced he was changing his gender, so that it would not be an issue in the press. Unfortunately, the plan backfired on him, and the city's bigots overwhelmingly threw him out of his job. Florida state has no laws protecting against the discrimination of GLBT people, save for Broward & Miami-Dade Couunties, where there are a significantly large GLBT and liberal-leaning voters.

Now the city of Lake Worth has voted 4-1, to employ Susan Stanton as its city manager. Additionally, the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council was able to persuade West Palm Beach, Tequesta, Lake Worth and Palm Beach County to add provisions to their codes that prevent discrimination based on gender identity.

We wish Ms. Stanton all the best for a happy and safe workplace, and for breaking new ground for GLBT people everywhere - especially in highly conservative Florida.
