According to a report by the BBC, our nation's capital is struggling with an HIV/AIDS epidemic greater than that of some African countries.

As defined by the CDC and the United Nations:

historically defined an HIV epidemic as generalised and severe when the overall percentage of disease among residents of a specific geographic area exceeds 1%.

The proportion in the District of Colombia is over 3%, with the hardest hit demographic being men aged 40-49, and African-Americans. These numbers were calculated by a recent push for HIV/AIDS testing in the district. Presently, they believe that number to be too conservative, as many people do not realize they are infected nor get tested. A local chief medical officer places the number at perhaps nearly 5% as they continue to process results from their HIV/AIDS testing drives.

In related news, about 1 billion ignorant, superstitious people who believe in a supernatural representation of a God on Earth embodied in one person, a.k.a. The Pope, listened to him say that condom use and its distribution "increase the problem" of HIV/AIDS infection. When one considers that 22 million+ people in Sub-Saharan Africa live with HIV/AIDS, where essentially 1 out of 2 people is a carrier, where 3/4 of those with the disease die (most untreated), this is one of the most ignorant, thoughtless, reckless and bigoted remarks ever made by a head of state. If there were a Hell, we'd like to see this Roman Catholic Nazi Asshole burn with a front row seat. The very thought that this man wields so much power from the minds of brainwashed adults literally sends shudders down our spines.

And those who consider themselves only moderately religious really need to look in the mirror and realize that the solace and comfort that religion brings you actually comes at a terrible price.

g.) The irony of religion is that, because of its power to divert man to destructive courses, the world actually could come to an end.
