For budding drag queens…
Earlier this week we got a handful of emails asking how to do makeup.
We recommend you look through YouTube if you want to SEE someone do it. We also have one video by Disco Dollie where she shows you how she starts, and offers a handful of clips. However, everyone is different.
There are as many styles of drag as their are personalities. We can certainly recommend a MAC course, as they have one specifically titled: Male to Female Transformations (and vice-cersa) - don't forget that Ms. RuPaul WAS their cover girl in the 90s. He still chairs their AIDS charity.
Now, if you don't have the time and/or money for that, or are still a bit "iffy" about doing it in front of other people...then we're pretty sure that if you ask just about ANY drag queen and/or faggot who wears makeup properly (know that we're looking at some of you, bitches...) that their are TWO makeup Bibles, and they, unlike the Christian bible, WERE witten by the same person: The Late, Great, Kevyn Aucoin.
What Michelangelo was to canvas and frescoes, this man was to the canvas of skin on faces. Charging as much as the supermodels of the day for a session's work, around $10,000+, his clients included: Cher, Madonna, Tori Amos, Janet Jackson, Lisa Marie Presley, Drew Barrymore, Tina Turner, and the list goes on and on...
He left behind a stunning legacy of amazingly styled artists, creating iconic looks still copied to this day.
His two books are simple, straightforward, colorful, and a beeauty to behold. They continue to be large sellers to this day.
They are:
1.) The Art of Makeup, Making Faces
2.) Faces Forward
Here's his official website, run by his former partner: Kevyn Aucoin Beauty
Now, go buy the books, buy the makeup, practice, and turn it!
...And teach your straight girlfriends a thing or two!
SINcerely,
The Drag Queen Posse
