Hamburger, with AIDS.

From the writer/director of Six Feet Under and American Beauty, Alan Ball, comes his adaptation of author Charlaine Harris' "Sookie Stackhouse" (Southern Vampires Mysteries) series - which has been retitled as the HBO series "Tru Blood."

We have not had a chance to read the books, but the homoerotic metaphor of vampires "coming out" to be amongst the living, known as "mainstreaming," is not lost or new to readers of another Southern Vampires chronicler: Anne Rice. We love her, but we're still scratching our heads as to why she became a Christian...despite her book on the subject. Although Rice's books never got the treatments they deserved, much of what is in the show is unmistakably influenced by them as well.

In this scene, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), an openly gay black man in New Orleans who's not afraid to wear makeup and earrings while at work, let's a couple of rednecks understand that just because you're gay doesn't mean you have to take ANY shit -- whether you have AIDS (by which the ignorant rednecks meant HIV) or not. Credit the openly gay Alan Ball for allowing this character not to live as a stereotype.

And the scene is motherfucking hilarious!

Lafayette serves a couple of Rednecks an AIDS Burger.
