Pridefest 2008 and thensome…
We think it's safe to say that Pridefest 2008 sucked hardcore - and not in a good way.
A lot of people said they were not even AWARE it was going on, and still others had mentioned that they were pretty fed up with PAYING to go SEE advertisers -- that we already see for free every week in the local fag rags. Who knows whether it was sentiment, or perhaps also, a mixed bag of the formerly well-to-do who have all lost their asses (not to mention their cars, fancy apartments/penthouses, clubs, and other properties and ASS-ets - read: boy toy trophies) all around town. You'd think with the economy at a slump, a lot more out-of-towners would be here too, but even those from abroad said that this Pridefest was pretty sad. From the lackluster turnout there that was easily half of not two years' prior, to many local clubs and pubs that were FAR below being "half-full," it's safe to say that Fort Lauderdale has hit a fairly shitty/crummy stage...club-land is a ghost of what it used to be. If you were anywhere fun, with lots and lots of people, chances are, it was a private party. Maybe when the economy gets better, more people will have $$ to spend, and more investors might be willing to take a risk on a club, but as of right now, Ft. Lauderdale is D.O.A.
And to help spill the tea on one of the local area's downtown hotspot's DEMISE, and a certain promoter whom shall remain nameless...for now...one of our regular cast members is coming back this next recording session, and she will open her own personal notebook TO READ. No need to get our panties in a bunch, because it's not only ALL TRUE, but we have the emails/voicemails to back it ALLLLL up if they wanna' sic the attorneys on us! It's gonna' be so sickening! Okay, so I just saw the pictures from Pridefest. Kinda happy I was sick to miss it. I swear, these queens that were so pretty back then are so used up by the drugs and acohol. I’m not condeming drugs, cause some queens still look gorgeous and do drugs. The pictures I must say look great, but it’s just the people in them. As for Club Land in it’s demise, i will agree with you on that one. This new Change in the scene is so ugh. Copa has been trying to re open since 2005, such a shame Coliseum Closed. Purgatory i haven’t been to, but i did go when it was Uncle’s. I Miss the Saint days with the Mirrors. Coliseum when I was 18, was so much fun and predictable. I rememeber i got so tired of hearing the same anthems every friday, that i wrote down every song of the night, and compared them to the next week. it was the same. Every friday was No More Drama (thunderpuss mix) then “release the drag queens” then when tp kicked and the confetti fell, the music would dry out into early 90’s trance. but u know what, that was what i fell in love with coliseum, you could always expect to see everyone. and the Grand Productions, OMG. I loved it when they did Madame Butterfly, and the Sunflowers Scene. OMG, Hott. but now to get shit like that i need to drive 4 hours north and go to Southern Nights or Parliament House to get that DRAG Quality in a night club. the whole cabaret drag thing is so tired already, the queens honestly do not know how to dig deep for the hot shit, like daisy and tp do, their remixes, and old school beats. When Mizz Cory first came down here and I was introduced to the Club Kid Idea, I thought it was going to pump SoFlo again, but after seeing her do Starkillers one too many times, it got boring. I love Glitz and Dollie cause they mix it up, with the club kid and entertainers. I have so much more to comment but i’ll leave it at this for now, I want the old school days back when Daisy would give birth to James Lord’s baby, when TP would demand you to, “Watch her Serve”, When Goya & Mamalona would stand outside of Twist and turn Tricks. When Poison Ivy was just that, Poison Ivy. The Dramatic bitch who wouldn’t mind doing a split or two to make her coins. Those good old days. oh and ps, having Porn Stars at a party is not celebrity status, Ingrid and Gianni at the bar without security and offering to buy you a drink @ Liquid. That’s Celebrity.
